Altamont is a side project by Dale Crover, longtime drummer for the Melvins. Dale started the band because he had picked up a Les Paul guitar and decided to use it. Joey Osbourne and Dan Southwick of Acid King joined him. The line up has changed a few times ever since. So far Altamont has released three albums on the now defunct Man’s Ruin label: a split record with Acid King, Civil War Fantasy and Our Darling. In 2005 The Monkee’s Uncle was released on the label AntAcidAudio, an offshoot of Ipecac Recordings, home of the Melvins. Altamont is also featured on ‘Right In The Nuts’, an Aerosmith tribute album for which they covered the song Make It. 2. Altamont (Steven Wilson) was a musically precocious teenager who taught himself to play guitar and keyboards. In 1983, at the age of 15 he recorded “Prayer For The Soul”, half solo and half with Si Vockings on keyboards. Credited to Altamont, it was released on the Acid Tapes label run by future Imaginary Records boss, Alan Duffy, and featured five Wilson compositions, “Altamont”, “Watching Statues”, “Telltale Heart”, “Split Image” and “Prayer For The Soul”....
