Grizzly Bear was originally a solo project of Edward Droste (vocals, guitar) who played their debut album cornucopia at home The album was intended from the beginning of his friends, but eventually out and got a proper release in 2004, this time with the help of Christopher Bear (drums / vocals) A re-release with a bonus disc of remixes was issued 2005
2005 saw also that the other two band members Chris Taylor (woodwinds / electronics / engineering / production) and Daniel Rossen (vocals / guitar) play as four pieces to the complex sounds that were recorded in the Horn of so muchm be played live band toured throughout the year, playing songs from the first album and some of the new songs they collectively written that would make up the Yellow House
An album of Droste's early demo recordings, Sorry for the delay was released in 2006 Later that year they record deal with Warp for September release Yellow House 4th 2006 to big Acclaim
In 2007 the band released Friend EP which features outtakes and alternate versions, covers done by CSS Band of Horses and Atlas Sound In addition to members of the Dirty Projectors and Beirut, worked with the band on "Alligator" and the European Parliament's hidden trails
The band released their third full-length Shallow May 26, 2009
