Avşar was born to Kurdish and Turkish parents. She graduated from Ankara Cumhuriyet Lisesi and started swimming professionally for DSI. In 1982, she and her family moved to Istanbul. Avşar attended a beauty pageant organized by Bulvar magazine which she won. Later, her crown was taken from her when organization found out that she was divorced from a short time marriage. In 1983, she debuted in acting with the movie Haram. In following years, she acted in over 70 movies in the leading role. During this period, she won the best actress prize in Moscow International Film Festival. By the time, she took musical education and showed up in some concerts that are organized nation-wide.
