In 1993, ex-Catherine Wheel bass player Grant Shanahan placed an advertisement for a guitarist, and was answered by musician Bek-Jean Stewart. Stewart convinced Shanahan to listen to her perform on a live radio broadcast, and Shanahan then scrapped the vocalist with whom he had been working. The act would release a five song EP in 1994, but there would be major personnel changes a year later during the sessions for their debut album, including the addition of keyboardist Steph Miller, drummer Bert Thomson, and guitarist Matt Galvin.[1] Mingling Stewart’s vocals with mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar and harmonica, Eva Trout recorded their debut Australian album Along Woodland Rides, Through Tunnels of Evergreen. In 1997 this effort was re-recorded and released for the U.S. as a self-titled album after Trauma records caught onto the group when Atlanta radio station WNNX added their track “Beautiful South” to heavy rotation.
