He first came to prominence as lead singer and guitarist of the band Danny Wilson. He formed the band in Dundee, Scotland in 1986 with his brother Kit on keyboards and friend Ged Grimes on bass. They produced smooth, intelligent, Steely Dan-influenced pop similar in style to contemporaries such as Deacon Blue and Prefab Sprout. Danny Wilson disbanded in February 1990 after two albums and the hit single Mary’s Prayer. He has since worked as a solo artist, band member, and songwriter and producer for other artists. He recorded a soul-tinged solo album, Ten Short Songs about Love, in April 1993. Clark then teamed up with Eric Pressly, Neill MacColl and Matt Lang to form the band King L. They released the Neil Young-influenced album, Great Day for Gravity, in 1995. Clark’s next project was the band Transister, a three-piece with Pressly and vocalist Keeley Hawkes.
