Gonn is tagged as: garage rock, 60s, 60s garage, psychedelic, psychedelic rock GONN came to be in the summer of 1966, when a group from KEOKUK, IOWA, found itself in need of new blood. Here’s how that went: CRAIG MOORE had been hanging out with and being general flunky for a Keokuk band called The Gallows, but when guitarist Dennis Chamberlain suggested Craig learn bass and join, he was too paranoid to take make the leap, despite having a major urge, like 1000’s of other teenage boys, to be in a band, thanks to THE BEATLES. At any rate, in 1965 he attempted to organize a band that would be called THE ACCUSED, but that got as far as one get-together and a set of nicely cut-out letters for the bass drum. Talking with classmate LaVern Gabel about his dream of a group, LaVern suggested contacting his younger brother Gerry who played organ. The subsequent contact made went something like this: “Hey Gerry, your brother says you play organ. I’m putting a band together, wanna join?” Gabel: “Uh, sure.” Classmate Nick Bloom was in on sax, a tip of the hat to The Dave Clark Five.
