She was the fourth finalist, leaving the show on November 1. Hayley was born in Albury, New South Wales, but has lived in Canberra for most of her life. Before entering the Australian Idol competition she was a university student at University of Canberra studying Economics and Management. She married her husband Tim in January 2004. After being turned back from her first audition, performing Christina Aguilera’s “The Voice Within”, in her hometown of Canberra—denied by Idol judges Ian “Dicko” Dickson and Mark Holden, voted “yes” by Marcia Hines—she travelled to Sydney to try again. This time Mark Holden changed his mind and agreed to give her a chance to perform in the first round of Australian Idol in Sydney.
