He was born in Lyon, France, began studying the piano at the age of five, and made his first public appearance at age seven. From the age of twelve, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire. He has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Cincinnati Symphony, Boston Symphony, Gewandhaus Leipzig Orchestra, WDR Cologne Radio Orchestra, National Symphony of Taiwan, Bilbao Symphony, BBC Symphony, Orchestre de Cannes-Provence, Galicia Symphony, Orchestre de Lyon, and National Symphony Orchestra, and he has performed solo recitals around the world—from San Francisco to Beijing to Pamplona, Spain. Among his collaborators in performances and recordings are soprano Renée Fleming, mezzo-sopranos Cecilia Bartoli and Angelika Kirchschlager, and violist Yuri Bashmet. Thibaudet has made over thirty recordings for Decca; his recording of the complete piano works of Ravel earned him a Grammy nomination.
