She toured nationally with them, winning several awards including the 2003 Urban Jam National Scholarship. This opened the door for Malakouti to dance in music videos for major artists like Nick Cannon, and Pink, and act in commercials for Verizon Wireless, and Powerade. In 2005 Malakouti formed the band ’Shut Up Stella’ and signed a record deal with Epic Records, a division of Sony Music. Shut Up Stella recorded several songs, one of which (“Welcome to My Party”) appeared in the 2008 film Baby Mama. On March 27, 2008 it was announced on the band’s official MySpace that Jessie decided to go solo.
