Broadbent graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 1972 and went on to work for the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as acting in Ken Campbell’s epic Illuminatus (1976). He also worked with the comedy group the National Theatre of Brent, with Patrick Barlow.
