Established in late 2007, Kalafina consists of Wakana Ohtaki (大滝若菜 · FictionJunction WAKANA), Keiko Kubota (窪田啓子 · FictionJunction KEIKO), Maya and Hikaru, who were all selected via audition by Yuki Kajiura herself. The group’s identities were initially kept secret for several months until its four member line-up was fully revealed in spring of 2008. Kalafina also contributed background vocals to the Kara no Kyoukai soundtracks. As of May 2009, Maya is no longer a member of Kalafina. Their debut single Oblivious, which contained the first three Kara no Kyoukai themes, was released on January 23, 2008. Re/oblivious, a remix mini-album, followed exactly three months after their official debut.
