His father is an American-born Chinese from San Francisco, California and his mother is from Hong Kong. His family moved to Shanghai when he was 6. When Khalil was 12, he and his parents moved to Guangzhou and lived for about 2 years. Afterwards, they stayed in Hong Kong. Khalil was self-taught on guitar and piano at the age of 15 and 18 respectively. In the meantime, he started writing songs and sent demos to music producers.
