Mary Margaret O’Hara is a Canadian singer-songwriter and actress, who has been hailed as one of the greatest cult heroines in rock music despite having released very few of her own recordings. She is the sister of comedic actress Catherine O’Hara. Her music ranges from gentle, countrified pop to avant-garde tone poems. Her recorded output has been extremely limited - in addition to her full length album ”Miss America”, she released a ”Christmas” EP in 1992, and contributed new songs and a score to the film ”Apartment Hunting” in 2001.
O’Hara was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to a large Catholic family. Her sister, Catherine has experienced a successful acting career, most notably for her role in the box office smash “Home Alone”. After graduating from Ontario Art College, Mary began acting and singing with the pop/soul group Dollars, covering songs by the likes of Etta James and Otis Redding. By 1976 she was lead vocalist for rock band Go Deo Chorus, where she developed her unique songwriting and vocal techniques.
