Monique was raised singing in her grandfather’s church; “The Institutional Church of God in Christ” in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn. She began singing at the tender age of five and quickly became the church’s star-soloist. She sang in every choir from the Childrens’ Choir to the Radio Choir. Monique’s stunning lead vocals shined brightly every Sunday night, during the Radio Choirs’ live broadcast. Her professional career began in the early 80’s when she joined “The Soul Stirrers Crusade choir.” While singing with this choir she met fellow choir member, Hezekiah Walker, whom she later married in 1992. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter Kyasia Monet.
