They were discovered by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong while playing in an East Bay club, and their debut album Dead End Stories was the first release on Adeline Records, Armstrong’s label. Originally consisting of Jack Dalrymple (guitar, lead vocals), Brandon Pollack (drums), and James Kotter (bass), the members at the time of separation were Dalrymple, Heiko Schrepel (bass, backup vocals) and Chip Hanna (drums). Together since 1996, rumors began spreading around 2003 that the band had broken up; One Man Army officially called it quits in 2005. The band released three albums, Dead End Stories on Adeline Records (1998), Last Word Spoken on Adeline Records (2000), and Rumors and Headlines on BYO Records (2002). The band recorded a split EP with Chicago punk rock band Alkaline Trio in 2004. This was to be their last recorded effort.
