Sirke is tagged as: Formed from ex-Plastalīns members, Sirke started out in 1996 as a lo-fi indie trio in Rīga, Latvia. In a year’s time they had added a fourth member and established themselves as one of the leading acts in Latvian underground. In the summer of 1997 they produced a set of instrumental tracks and recorded them under the name of Sirke 603. Soon enough though they discarded the concept of two different bandnames and switched to playing instrumental post-rock as Sirke. Over their seven years of existence they expanded to the size of a small orchestra with seven people altogether playing post-rock with a disco-like edge on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, two saxophones and vinyls. They went on a few small tours and played individual concerts in nearby Europe and finally disbanded in 2003, performing a symbolical goodbye concert on the band’s seventh anniversary. The band was one of the core elements of the third wave of Latvian underground gravitating around the Tornis label and studio situated in an actually functioning watertower.
