Caspe and Nathanson met in the spring of 1998 when Caspe (keyboards) joined Nathanson (guitar) in the already existent and popular R&B/Funk/Soul cover band, Lippsmackadee.|During the two years in the band, Caspe & Nathanson forged a strong friendship and working relationship. They soon realised that they were musical counterparts and left Lippsmackadee to focus on their own original projects.|The first project they set out on was a 14 piece neo-soul band called Frodisi. The project was up and running for about 6 months. Caspe and Nathanson had pictured Frodisi becoming the hottest band in NYC, but the tough rehearsal schedule and large size of the band made it impossible to get off the ground. Caspe and Nathanson decided they needed a project where they would solely rely on each other.
