Some we recall in the morning, others are gone with the dawn. What’s that line? “I can’t remember, I can’t forget.” That’s how St Helen’s came in to being… the inevitable outcome of too many nights out. A cursory glance at the pre-history of the people involved reveals one-degree-of separation from Spider Vomit, Bird Blobs, Minimum Chips, Alpha Males and Kes. Satelliting the core band are occasional contributors from Love Of Diagrams and Panel Of Judges. The gravity that pulls their energies into something tangible, into the distinct entity that is St Helens, is the song writing skills of Jarrod Quarrell. Jarrod previously fronted The New Season and (when there’s a full moon) still prowls the night as Lost Animal, performing in minimalist solo electronic mode. St Helen’s originally formed to give voice to Jarrod’s songs. Initially live shows were intentionally few and far between.
