The Allender Band is made up of Robin Allender (guitar and vocals) Alex Wilkins (guitar) and Sam Tarbuck (bass). Drummer Dave Collingwood left the band in May 2008, a replacement is expected to be announced shortly. Robin Allender began as a solo singer-songwriter and guitarist, releasing the album “The Bird and the Word” through Dreamboat Records on July 9th 2007. Robin’s fingerpicked, melodic folk has been compared to Elliott Smith, Bill Callahan and Jim O’Rourke. The 4-track EP “In the Grip of Light” was released by Dreamboat Records on May 26th 2008. The E.P. moves away from the acoustic-based folk of The Bird and the Word towards a more expansive sound. While still featuring Allender’s hushed vocal delivery and unusual, poetic lyrics, In the Grip of Light also contains elements of rock, gothic country and experimental indie. The EP’s lush, spacious melodicism recalls Red House Painters, while its subtle, dynamic arrangements show the influence of post-rock figureheads Talk Talk and The For Carnation.
