It started out as a punk band in 1978. It’s members were Cock de Jong - guitars, Jan de Jong - drums, Rob marienus - bass, and Theo van der Plas - vocals. After Theo left, brothers Wieb (guitars) and Bonne Zigtema (vocals) joined the band. By that time, they called their music “New Beat” (incorporating more pop influences from groups such as The Beatles), and they were later considered one of Holland’s first new wave bands. They released 2 albums and 5 singles. The Rousers’ first album— “A Treat of New Beat”— was chosen as one of the best dutch sleeve designs ever & has become a real collectors item (Designer:Joost Swarte). The second album— “Touched”— was a critically acclaimed album but wasn’t commercially received as well as the first. The Rousers disbanded in 1982 and re-emerged a year later as The Thought. 2.
