This Perfect Day is tagged as: swedish, indie, pop, indie pop, rock This Perfect Day was a band from Skelleftea in northern Sweden that took its name from Ira Levin’s 1970 sci-fi novel “A Beautiful Day”. Formed in 1987 in Palembang, Sumatra (!), TPD brought together five school friends all of whom originated from Skellefteå: Mats Eriksson (vocals), Richard Johansson (guitar), Ove Markström (guitar), Ralph Tjärnlund (drums) and Peter Fahlgren (bass). The band pitched their first recordings on cassette to the local - and now legendary - record company A West Side Fabrication with whom they were initially signed and released their first singles on vinyl and cassette. (Yes, cassettes!). Following a gig at the Hultsfred Festival in 1991, the band moved to MNW’s sub-label Soap Records whose stable also included Cinammon and the Wannadies. Following the release of Rubber Soul, the band’s debut album in 1992, TPD quickly established themselves as part of the Swedish alternative guitar-pop scene.
