David Bisbal (born June 5, 1979) is a Spanish singer. Bisbal was the second finalist of the reality show “Operación Triunfo”, a show inspired by American Idol.
Bisbal was born in the city of Almería, Andalucía, and he has two older siblings, a brother, José María Bisbal (born 1968) and a sister, María del Mar Bisbal (born 1971).
Bisbal left school because he did not like studying very much, music was always his thing. His parents found him a job in a greenhouse, but Bisbal had become interested in music. He was always singing at work and his talent was soon discovered. He was soon asked to audition for an orchestra named Orquesta Expresiones.
Bisbal performed in the orchestra as a singer, leading to his participation in Operación Triunfo. Bisbal was signed by record company Vale Music, which sent him to Miami to record his first CD with Kike Santander, a Colombian and important music producer.
Bisbal’s first album, Corazón Latino (Latin Heart), was a smash hit in Spain and all over Latin America, so much so that he had to schedule a 2002-2003 tour that covered the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and a good portion of the rest of South America and Central America, as well as the United States. It is estimated Bisbal has already earned over one million US dollars in his career as a singer. Ave María, Lloraré Las Penas and Dígale were huge hits.
|His second album is titled Bulería, and has been as big a hit as his first album (over 1 million copies sold in Spain, winning him the Diamond CD, the n°1 album of the year 2004). His first DVD Todo por Ustedes, recorded during his Spanish and American tour, was launched in March 2005 and was the highest selling DVD for more than a month in Spain, and did very well in America too. Bulería, Oye El Boom, Desnúdate Mujer, Camina Y Ven, Esta Ausencia, Me Derrumbo and Como Olvidar were all singles.
In 2006, David Bisbal sang Let’s Make History featuring Joana Zimmer for the soundtrack of the German film “Die Luftbrücke” (“The Air Bridge”). Now, he is going to release David Bisbal, an album only for Europe, which includes all his Spanish hits and three new English songs: The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore, Stop Loving You and Cry For Me.
