Dúné (pronounced Dew-nay) is a young Danish band who is inspired by the punk of the seventies, the pop of the eighties and the indierock of the nineties and have created their own unique blend: indielectrock!
Extensive touring through the recent years have brought the band to all parts of Scandinavia, Holland, Germany and England, and gained them a reputation as a stunning live act. They deliver a show loaded with elegance and energy, and when they leave the stage it’s certain that everyone among the audience have had the chance to warm up their legs and melt down their dancing shoes, as well as open up their auditory canal to the tunes.
2001-2003|Dúné started in Skive, Denmark in 2001, when classmates Mattias Kolstrup (Vocals), Malte Aarup-Sørensen (Drums) and Simon Troelsgaard (Guitar) joined forces with their female counterpart Anne Cecilie Dyrberg, who both mastered the synthesizer, the guitar and could sing – the boys were amazed! Polish-born classical guitarist Piotrek Wasilewski, who had just arrived in Denmark a year earlier, had never played the bass before, but was welcomed in the band as the bass player. Soon after, Danny Jungslund and Ole Bjørn Sørensen, who came from nearby towns, also joined what was to become Dúné.|Eager to play music and with a determination to succeed, the band rehearsed and played as many venues as possible.
2004|In 2004 Dúné made their first self-financed EP called ’Go Go Robot’. The EP received great reviews. Kristian Riis (Music Export Denmark) wrote:|“The EP sounds like a foundation stone to a long and successful career both in Denmark and internationally. In spite of the young age of the members, Dúné have already created an interesting frame to present their music in. It is really a refreshing and very positive experience.”|Danish national radio DR-P3 also took notice of ”Go Go Robot”, and the track Jack Beats Jim Leads was playlisted.
2005|Outside Denmark, rumors of Dúné started spreading, and the band headlined the Norwegian Aurora Festival 2005, and an enthusiastic journalist wrote:|”They took the stage, played – and won. The best band of the festival!”. During the fall of 2005, Dúné played a mini-tour of Sweden and Norway, and also supported Surferosa at the Rockefeller venue in Oslo, Norway, as well as Art Brut in Copenhagen.
2006|Dúné kicked off 2006 by playing the SPOT Festival showcase in Aarhus, Denmark, on a packed Train venue. GAFFA (Denmarks most influential music magazine) awarded the band an amazing 6/6 star review:|“During the entire 45 minutes of synthesizers, striking guitar-riffs and intense – almost desperate – vocal-manifestations from Mattias Kolstrup, the band keep up a manic level of energy. (…) The energy culminated during the last ten minutes of the show. Cascades of water are thrown and sprayed over the jumping audience from the “Fab 7”. The lead singer collapses on stage, and is soaked in water by his fellow band members – and so is everyone, including the camera crew, who is anywhere close to the stage. The last song is played like one long, accelerating wave of energy, and it ends when the lights go out, and leaves two synth-players illuminated on opposite sides of the stage. The synthesizers fade out, and a thundering applause fills the venue.”|Next stop was the ROSKILDE FESTIVAL, where Dúné managed to fill the Pavilion Junior stage. Soundvenue.com awarded the band a 5-star review:|“Dúné has an abundance of the unmistakable star quality, that one just have to surrender to. From the first monotone beats to the closing keyboard-sounds, the young septet had the eyes and ears of the crowd at the Pavillion Stage glued to the stage. (…) Songs like ‘Robot Beat’ and ‘Go Go Valentina’ were performed with such an astounding energy, confidence and a total lack of humbleness, that the songs took life and turned into an onrushing force, that manifested itself in the tent, that often reached boiling point. (…) Dúné didn’t do a single thing wrong at the concert. Sharp timing and great playing. I salute them with five festival-tents out of six. But why not six?? I guess my envy of their skills have eaten away the last tent.”|Following the performance at SPOT, where several people from outside Denmark laid their eyes on Dúné for the very first time, the band has seen a major increase in international interest. In the fall of 2006, 3 showcase were held in London.|Barely home from London, DR-P3 annouced that Dúné was nominated for the prestigious “Talent of the Year” award at the annual P3 Guld Awards in Copenhagen. At the awardshow, the band performed their first single ‘Bloodlines’ live on national television and radio. Shortly thereafter, DR-P3 chose ‘Bloodlines’ as “Track of the Week”.
