Harbor Royale is the metaphorical Phoenix of many empirical bands that have come before it. Though the industry is plagued by unoriginality and uniformity, Harbor Royale returned from the fire of reformation to convey a distinctive sound all their own.
Harbor Royale is the brainchild of lead vocalist Brock Davis. The twenty four year-old has been singing and writing since the seventh grade, and has been a member of a plethora of bands, notably including: Jamies Elsewhere (Victory Records), Witness The Forecast (2-time Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands winners), and The Recovery to name just a few.
These of which have shared the stage with groups such as: Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, Bless The Fall, Bullet For My Valentine, Pierce The Veil, Thursday, Four Year Strong, Mayday Parade, Memphis May Fire, Fear Before, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dear Whoever, No Bragging Rights, Upon Beauty Rests, I Am The Ocean, Escape The Fate, The Sleeping, and many many more.
Witness the Forecast reached such potential that Max Greene from Escape the Fate took part as manager to promote its success. But it has always been a dream of Davis’ to start the project that would ultimately become Harbor Royale.
It was in April of 2008 that Harbor Royale’s “ShipWreck” quickly jumped to 100,000 plus plays and was showcased at Hot Topic as an acoustic project.
Once the project progressed to a full band effort, there was skepticism in Davis’ heart about the direction that it should go. After recording different EP’s and eventually pulling the plug on all of them, Davis set out to find a sonic sound that would resonate with listeners.
It is through mutual friends that he stumbled upon the group Emissarie. Their raw talent and stunning instrumentals created frenzy across the country, consequently resulting in the headlining showcase featuring: PMToday (Rise Records). They have also shared the stage with many other bands such as The Higher (Epitaph Records), Quiet Drive (Drive-Through Records), Art.esia, I See Stars (Sumerian Records), and In Aviate (Rise Records).
When the opportunity arose, Davis united his lyrics to the instrumentals of Emissarie and soon found that inimitable sound that he had been searching for. As fate would have it, forces brought these members together to create an unparalleled and unprecedented ensemble.
Emissarie originated from Salt Lake City, Utah where a brotherhood produced a trio of talented musical prodigies: Wes, Jantzen, and Chase Meier. These brothers grew up in an atmosphere that cultivated and harvested musical talents. Their abilities perfectly complementing one others, they posses an infatuation with creating music.
The oldest brother, Wes, is an eighteen-year-old who has played the drums for ten years. “Drums are a huge part of my life along with my band and music in general.” Wes credits Alex Rodriguez (Saosin), Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band), and Zac Farro (Paramore) as his influences.
Next to follow suit is his brother Jantzen, a seventeen -year-old guitarist who has been playing for nine years. “I picked up my first guitar when I was 8 years old and ever since then music has become my passion.”
Chase, though the youngest at fourteen years of age, does not lack the enthusiasm and fervor of his siblings. He has been perfecting his bass playing over the last eight years and truly believes that this is what he was made for.
Just hours away in St. George Utah a nineteen-year-old guitarist, Londen Smith, was visiting local venues and envisioning his own chances at destiny. “Going there when I was younger to see bands tour through was the biggest part of what I am now.” Little did he know that by joining with these brothers what awaited him was the fulfillment of all his preparation.
Over the last eleven years, the individual members of this band have been preparing and readying themselves for the realization of their ambitions. Their talent and experience is not enough to stake a legitimate claim, but it is by their sheer determination and drive that they will accomplish success. It is something that each member has desperately fought for time and time again. And with a realistic awareness of the over-populated music industry Harbor Royale presents itself as a force wind of talent that will never retreat.
Just like the Phoenix, self-combusting then recovering from many disappointments and collapses, Harbor Royale has emerged from the ashes of their past attempts as a powerful breed to be reckoned with.
Their album to be released the Summer of 2010 is appropriately entitled “Aspirations.”
