Ingrid Michaelson is an Indie singer / songwriter whose single "The Way I Am" hit # 2 on U.S. charts Her music has been featured on television programs like "Gray's Anatomy" and "One Tree Hill "After the eclectic footsteps of her mother, a sculptor and her father a classical composer, Ingrid began piano lessons at only four years old Her songwriting career began after college while touring the country in a national theater troupe and spending all her free time composing the songs that eventually would make it on her first CD Girls and Boys
New York-based Michaelson's parents were both artists (composer Carl Michaelson and sculptor Elizabeth Egbert Director) She took up piano vid the age of Five attending Manhattan's Third Street Music School for two years going to the Jewish Community Center of Staten Island is the Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute, where she met vocal coach Elizabeth McCullough who worked with her through high school, she is a graduate of Staten Island Technical High School and Binghamton University where she received a degree in theater
Her influences ranging from Fiona Apple to Coldplay, she regularly appears at Manhattan venues such as the Knitting Factory CBGB's 169 Gallery Bar Sidewalk Cafe Kenny's Castaways, and Pianos
Her music has also recently had a bit more "commercial success with songs like" Breakable "and" Keep Breathing "is on the ABC show Gray's Anatomy samt2007 Old Navy commercial being set till his song "The Way I Am"
In September 2008, she has supported Jason Mraz during their European tour
