Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, Outasight (Richard Andrew) was brought up by a mother who decorated the walls with records and a guitar playing father. Constantly moving from apartment to apartment never gave him a true sense of home, but Outasight always found comfort in music.
Whether it was fronting bands at such hollowed venues as the Knitting Factory and CBGB’s, or citing spoken word at the Nuyorican Cafe and the Bowery Poetry Club, Outasight has always loved the stage. A once regular at drum and bass party’s, it was at these party’s where he really began to utilize both rapping and singing together. Using these life experiences, Outasight is creating a brand of music all to his own.
|In June 2008, Outasight released his second promotional cd, Radio New York. . The cd includes 15 songs, including the Concrete Loop.com and Giant Magazine featured track “Good Evening” , Urb Magazine’s Next 1000 pick in “Fame and Fortune”, and XXL Magazine’s Soundcheck choice in “Something to Talk About.” Outasight and his new body of work has also graced the front page of the world’s largest networking sites in Myspace.com and Black Planet. |The album’s first video, “Good Evening (shot and directed by Andre Hibbert)” will be featured on MTVU’s “The Freshman” and is currently slated to be in rotation in all major media outlets. Radio New York has been one considered by many to be one of the best releases from a new artist this year. Famed hip hop site Okayplayer.com states in their review (where the album scored an 88 out of 100), “Radio New York, is a barrage of harmonic hip-hop and catchy hooks, infused with springtime to make a dope album.”
Giant Magazine’s website also blessed Outasight’s Radio New York with some acclaim saying, “If you love soulful, old school hiphop influenced music, Outasight can definitely make you fall once more for your once lost love.”
Outasight has opened for such major artists as Ron Browz, Me’Shell Ndegeocello, and Dead Prez. He also rocked at the 2007 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival where major label artists such as Emily King, Ghostface Killah, Skills, and Consequence performed. Outasight has performed at most mid/major NYC venues including numerous shows at both the Kniting Factory and SOB’s. Outasight first stepped onto the scene when his song, “New York, New York” was featured on a debuting MTV Show (PowerGirls) and his music has graced the airwaves of major campus radio stations across the country. In 2007, NYC’s 90.3 City College Radio’s highest rated Hip Hop Show (Hosted by Video Music Box’s Kevin Lawrence) named Outasight Best Urban Alternative Artist. Outasight’s first release, the Employee of the Year EP (released September 25th 2007) has received over 10,000 downloads.
Outasight has received press from MTV, Myspace Music, Black Planet, Giant Magazine, Urb Magazine, Concrete Loop.com, SOHH.com, XXL, Urb Magazine.com, Singer’s Room, Art of Rhyme, Nahright.com, Brooklyn Bodega, Hip Hop Remix, The Deli Magazine, Tour Magazine, and countless other blogs across the net. Blending a strong combination of on point emceeing, creative melodies, and soulful vocals, Outasight aims to bring music to a whole new place while drawing inspiration from his past. Outasight is certainly an artist on the rise that has his own lane to shine.
