During the past decade driven by the envelope has given the world some of the decade's most exciting and imaginative young rock 'n' roll outfits, from Fall Out Boy and The Academy Is ... to Paramore and Panic at the Disco Now the label has done it again Meet Power Space your next favorite new band
The Illinois-based combo's full length debut "The Kicks of Passion" (released 31 July 2007) sees the Power Space release his own inimitable sound, a colored mash-up of pure power pop and electronica-inspired invention songs like "Power Space Snap Bracelet" and "Right On Right Now" snap literally and crackle with the just-out-of-their-teens Quartet's uncontainable charm and energy
The Power Space team met back in 2005 at Ohio's Miami University Guitarist Tom Schleiter and bassist DanielMcMahon, who both played in bands in their own burbs in Chicago had long discussed making music together a year older Schleiter spent her first semester at Miami working with drummer Kevin Kane in a local band an experienced guitarist describes as "unsatisfactory" He spent the next summer focusing on writing songs for an as-yet-undetermined new band When he told McMahon what he was up to bassist proposed two form a new combo of Dan arrival to school this fall
when they started working together, the three musicians launched a search for a singer while they were excited about this new musical outlet they have to treat their first mission with a grain of salt
They worked quickly with an avant-garde poet and a flipocket singers who had been plagued by shyness is not a particularly helpful quality in a front person, their staff resolved the problem on a car trip home from Miami when Schleiter mom suggested that their high school friend and fellow Miami U student Alec Cyganowski want to give the song a shot
With Cyganowski behind the microphone Power Space was full band started playing shows around Miami University and Cincinnati and the summer felt ready to do some recording, rather than simply cutting a standard question demo, they decided to hire producer Mark Mcclusky (Hit the Lights Ludo Scenes from a Movie ) who worked with McMahon in one of his previous band, they did five songs in five days that led to the "Houston we have a Party" EP
EP out soon Space Powerto pay attention to major label bigwigs and weasels who all started waving contracts under the band's noses in the end the Power Space inked with the label that most reflected their own aesthetic views and artistic goals - powered by envelope
Instead of splitting its focus between the playlist and his studies Power Space, choose to take an indefinite break from Miami University They played some local gigs to share stage with bands like June Quietdrive and 2 * Sweet More significantly spent endless time in the practice room to concentrate on their chosen craft
by December 2006 they were ready to play again choose to work with producer Mcclusky But first the band had to give him a hand on her new digs in Lincoln Park called "Doris Country" by Mcclusky beloved pooch
Power Space spent most of the winter in the studio, carefully crafting what would be called - for reasons the band prefers to keep close to the vest - "The Kicks of Passion" Take off from such influences as INXS The Darkness The Wrens, and Squarepusher the album is bracingly creative displays Power Space's versatile pop approach a glamtastic sonic approach kissed with electro textures and metallic virtuosity
"The Kicks of Passion" living with ingenious power with soaring songs like "It smells Electricity In Here" proving the band's artistic ambition, the skyscraping melodies and overall exuberance are counterpointed by deeply personal lyricism often touched with a melancholy and reflection that the band attributes to his time at Miami U
with "The Kicks of Passion Redo go Power Space turns his attention to playing out, after having spent much of the last year honing their craft the band is full-on fired up about finally hitting the road and come down with the kids
Drummer Kevin Kane said the band's break up den February 17 2010
