“Rapid Ric is one of the fastest rising DJ’s in the South right now, and it’s mostly because of the skill he brings to his art form.” – Chamillionaire
While Texas’ slow and soulful underground movement went mainstream in 2005, millions of CD’s by Texas artists flew off the shelves as MTV and even the New York Times co-signed the Lone Star State. Meanwhile, every mixtape Rapid Ric dropped (Z-Ro’s Greatest Verses, Whut It Dew 2, Afta Da Relays, Getcha Weight Up, King of the Trill, Whut it Dew 3) boosted his star higher as Texas stayed hot on Atlanta’s heels as the next big thing in Southern hip-hop music.
In 2006, the 25-year-old set himself even farther apart from his peers with “Before Da Relays”, “Afta Da Relays”, Chalie Boy’s “Versatyle Child”, Magno’s “City Boyz” and the 4th quarter monster “Whut It Dew 4”. He mans the pipeline of the Lone Star State’s top talent, furthering the self-made legacy of Screw, Swishahouse’s Michael Watts, Chamillitary and Slim Thug’s Boss Hogg Outlaws. Rapid Ric’s Whut it Dew series – the first of which was hosted by Chamillionaire prior to his platinum debut album – has solidified his niche as a trendsetter and tastemaker by progressing Texas’ regional underground sound.
“He’s a phenomenal DJ, one of my personal favorites. His song selection, remixes, cuts and scratches are off the hook.” – Paul Wall
Unlike most Southern mixtape DJ’s, Rapid Ric also spins at live events, including all of Hot 93’s concerts, two Austin weeklies and frequent New York City gigs. In the past year he has been Chamillionaire’s official international tour DJ in Canada and Europe, as well as Slim Thug’s DJ at 12 Dub Magazine Car Shows and the Quart Festival attended by 35,000 people in Norway. He was also Devin the Dude’s Canadian tour DJ, and spun at the All Star Game Jam Session in Houston.
One of too few DJ’s focused on actual mixing, Rapid Ric is currently working on projects with Chingo Bling, Slim Thug and Chamillitary Entertainment. He has garnered praise from The Source, XXL, Scratch, Ozone, Down, Hip Hop Connection in England … from numerous Mixtape Mondays on MTV to New York Times coverage and full-page local features in the Austin Chronicle and American-Statesman. Rapid Ric has worked and performed alongside Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Bun B of UGK, Scarface, Too Short, Ying Yang Twins, Ciara, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, Youngbloods, David Banner, Lil’ Flip, Slim Thug, Lil’ Webbie, Lupe Fiasco and Rakim.
While recording his debut solo album “Whut It Dew Family”, Rapid Ric – who has mixed intros for releases by Chamillionaire, O.G. Ron C and Killa Kyleon – has laid cuts on Chingo Bling’s latest single and collaborated with Grammy-award winning producer Carlos Sosa.
A regular mixer on Austin’s Emmis-owned KDHT “Hot” 93.3 FM for the past two years, Ric’s weekly Mixtape FM show debuts Texas hits on Saturday nights. He is seeking radio and satellite syndication for Mixtape FM.
