Effortlessly fusing crushing metal riffs, the thunderous double-bass drumming of grindcore and the intensity and beatdowns of the most vicious hardcore, London quintet 50 Caliber are a snarling, rabid beast whose bite goes straight for the jugular. With a black heart, this is the music of abject misery and raging vengeance. The relentless result is jaw-dropping. Vocalist Terry Simmonds’ throat-shredding evil screams and roars, the face-melting dual guitar attack of Charlie Wilson and the truly punishing rhythm section of drummer Richard Wooding create a masterful melee of noise that is unparalleled in ambition and scope, proving that 50 Caliber have the potential to become one of the UK’s brightest metal hopes. Formed in 2002 by Simmonds and original guitarist Terry Haynes, the band wasted no time in unleashing their critically acclaimed debut 5-track EP ‘Internal Bleeding’, through Blackfish Records (Stampin Ground’s Ian Glasper’s label), which quickly sold out. Kerrang!’s Dom Lawson described the release as “a succinct and stunning jackboot to the nether regions” (KKKK), while Rock Sound’s Darren Sadler said 50 Caliber “smack you in the face so hard that you’ll be left in pain for weeks” (4/5). The rising UK metalcore five-piece followed this success with 2003’s ‘Splitting//Ammunition’, a split release with Belgium’s Die My Demon containing five more slabs of savagery that cemented their position as one of the country’s most exciting and uncompromising metalcore maulers. However, Simmonds’ honesty in his harrowing lyrics led to a terrible setback for the band in 2004. Due to drink and drugs problems the singer left the band and bassist Baz took over vocal duties. Although they continued playing shows, they didn’t write any new material due to musical differences. In his time away from the band, more drama and tragedy struck for Simmonds. After being stabbed in a fight and losing a close family member, he fought off his demons, quit drink and drugs and rejoined 50 Caliber early last year. With Simmonds back spitting his hatred-filled vocals and a solidified line-up making them more brutal than ever, 50 Caliber have laid down three decimating demos and are writing their highly-anticipated debut full-length. Metal and hardcore fans will be blown away as the reinvigorated five-piece take aim at an unsuspecting world. New tracks ‘Slaughtering Of The Sun’, ‘Way Down The Bottle’ and ‘Shadows’ display a pure power that’s sure to make the album one of the finest metal debuts of recent years. Having honed their skull-crushing sound, the band are now unstoppably ferocious. Stand in their way and get cut down. They say that wasn’t doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. They don’t come any stronger than 50 Caliber and they’re about to break out from the underground, all guns blazing.|Bio by Ian @ Band Biogs|Contact [email protected]
