7 Year Bitch was an all-female, 4-piece punk rock/grunge band in Seattle, Washington from 1990–1997. Their career yielded three albums, and was impacted by the heroin overdose-death of their guitarist Stefanie Sargeant and the brutal rape and murder of close friend Mia Zapata of Seattle punk band The Gits. Although their fierce sound and the subject matter of a few of their lyrics led some in the press to identify them as part of the riot grrrl movement centered in nearby Olympia, Washington, they always rejected the connection. Their recording career included three full-length albums, Sick ‘Em (1992), ¡Viva Zapata! (1994, named in honor of Mia Zapata), and Gato Negro (1996). |
