As a poetic songwriter, she personifies her music through her style, heart, and sex appeal to create engaging pop music with a touch of arresting soul. “I was brought up on classic rock, but I listen to hip hop and R&B,” she explains, and lists her influences as ranging from: A Tribe Called Quest, Mariah Carey and Lauren Hill to classics such as The Beatles and Janis Joplin. “I think my music reflects both styles,” she adds. Her tender, soulful voice brings a refreshing twist to her guitar driven songs, which she describes as “full of energy and full of passion.” She elaborates further describing her older work as “mainstream pop-rock with a lot of soulful R&B undertones.” Born and raised in Southern California, this drop-dead gorgeous Redlands native has been singing and performing since the age of eight. When she reached high school, she auditioned for the Interscope signed girl group Foxi-Nova and instantly became one of the three female members. Picked from thousands of hopefuls, she was fortunate enough to write and record with platinum record producers and hit song-writers such as Babyface and Robin Thicke, before the group went their separate ways. Convinced to try out for Idol by a friend, Alaina gained unparalleled exposure to over 30 million viewers in the United States alone and after her departure was snapped up by the hit-making team at Pulse Records. Josh Abraham (Pink, Michelle Branch, 30 Seconds To Mars) has been nurturing her talents and is overseeing the creative direction and developing Alaina’s ‘California acoustic’ sound. Three signature tracks of hers are set to be released on March 4th on the second volume of “Curtain Call”, a joint venture between Artists’ Addiction Records and Rocket Science. The collection will be available exclusively through Wal-Mart and iTunes. Each installment will present four Idol finalists performing three original songs. Alaina’s contribution include “Believe”, a stand-out song that positively pleads for attention – haunting, inspirational and infectious, all at the same time; while “Bad Name” showcases a different side of Alaina’s personality, oozing with sex appeal, and declaring that she’s ready to play hard in the game of love. “How I Feel” tells a complicated tale of longing and unrequited infatuation, using an organic blend of acoustic guitar and Alaina’s touching, but perfectly simple lyrics. All three songs are a terrific showcase of what is to come for Alaina - her sound is soulful, organic and electrifying– a welcome contrast to the over produced Top 40 albums we’re force fed. This isn’t a second chance or a resurrection… this is just the start. | |
