Though first starting her career recording several demos and appearing on multiple compilations, her debut album, Voodoo was released in 2010. Born as the sixth child in a musical family of 10, Alexz Johnson came to the planet singing. Alexz started taking vocal lessons at the age of nine. Growing up, she was strongly influenced by her father’s classic Roy Orbison, The Rat Pack and Billy Joel records; and a lot of 1950’s bands like The Temptations. By the age of 14, Alexz took a strong liking to Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s world sounds and fell in love with Rickie Lee Jones lyrics. During this time, Alexz was performing the national anthem at NHL and NBA games in Vancouver and gaining great recognition for her vocal talent. At 15, Alexz began writing in her basement with her brother Brendan, who had been going to production school to follow his passion in music production.
