Kassia Conway found best friend Amy Wood somewhere between New York City and the Los Angeles desert. After long years of trying to ride it out, the two collided bikes, walked it off…for awhile…and then began. They were not wearing helmets. All Wrong & The Plans Change is a true story and you know it.
“I’m Like Whatever”, the debut album, was a handmade record, with Wood doing a large part of the engineering, along with her father, John Wood (engineer/producer) on borrowed time, in between sessions, and late at night after bands had left for the day. The record is charged by an early ‘90’s DIY spirit, the place where so many of their influences originated, from Pavement to The Breeders. |Kassia, self taught, gravitated towards the bass because it was the closest she could get to the drums and the microphone at the same time. Amy has always been a drummer. Having a producer as a father she’s the studio rat that began on pots and pans, then moved to filling in for sessions to playing in clubs at 14 years old in Los Angeles.
“I’m Like Whatever” has a charm to it; a simple ’what you see is what you get’ realness to the songs, and it’s full of humility and a sense of humor. No outfits, nothing cute. In fact, live, All Wrong & The Plans Change can be intimidating, as Kassia snarls on tracks like “Whiskey Birds” or “Hey Hey”, while being easy-going and playful on “I Get Down”. Along the way the plans have changed, but the music keeps coming.
