1. B-Sides is an indie/alternative rock band hailing from Patras, Greece with a history of being since 2007. www.myspace.com/bsidesband Most of their members were actually together since 1999, being involved in other music projects, until 2004 when the first lineup of B-Sides came together and started rehearsing and composing since then, though without a singer. The year of 2007 seemed very defining to the band, while their lineup became complete, with the addition of a new drummer and finally a fit-table singer. Their first live concert place at Politeia Live Hall located in Patras, Greece, performing as a supoort group for the band Flakes in December 2007. In early 2008, B-Sides independently released their first demo-single by the name Morning after (limited to 500 copies), which contained the songs “Queen” and “Forest”. The single was free of charge. Their song “Queen” was the mostly well received song of theirs, since it was included in a compilation of the site of Postwave.gr (alternative music webzine) and was aired by a fair number of radio stations in the range of Patras and beyond. Their second demo-single called K-9 was released in spring of 2008 and contained the songs “Who” and “Kill”. It was though very limited and was only handed to friends and to radio stations for promotional use. After taking part in a series of music festivals, having their songs included in several compilations and others being remixed…in a decent amount of time B-Sides started spreading their fame and building their very own recognition around their name. Their first official release was a limited to 500 copies, 7’’ vinyl single called Queen, that contained the songs “Queen” and “Forest” - released in December 2008. Their second official release was a limited to 200 copies, 7’’ vinyl single called Kill, that contained the songs “Kill” and “I Speak Your Words” - released in spring 2010. B-Sides had their debut album (Story Without End) presentation by live performance and album release on Friday 11th of June, 2010 in Catamaran beach bar (located in Panagopoula, Achaia, Greece). |2. The B Sides came on the Athens, USA scene right before Christmas 2006. The B Sides cherish authenticity in their efforts to recreate the sounds of the obscure and unpolished ’60s bands they admire and emulate. Equal parts moody and up tempo US style 66 punk and various psychedelic reference points, the jangle fuzz of guitarist John and Apo’s (The Odd Mods) farfisa dominated rave-ups make for a band out of time, yet rough and ready for any calendar year. They play pure 60s-style garage. Their novelty act is to have a female voice in a men’s scene. Talk about authenticity! Maria sounds as though she’s been melting down the boys’ Standells, Syndicate of Sound, Jujus and Sonics singles and taking them intravenously. Lefteris (Yesterday’s Thoughts), another veteran of the scene, a remarkable bass virtuoso and Panaramone (The Psykicks) the youngster drummer with the driving sound are the energy core of the band. These 60’s garage zombies have just escaped from rock and roll’ cemetery into the forests and could return within the next few months to a club near you. Beware of the… B – SIDES ! 3. Name used by techno producer Frank De Wulf in the early 90s. 4. B-Sides is the band that Adam Ant started after leaving Bazooka Joe (1976), the name eventually changed to Adam and The Ants early on into 1977. |
