“BANTABA” is mandinke-language and describes the place of a community’s highest tree, where people are invited to come together and dance, to play music, relax and discuss… Grounded on the common vision of inviting everybody to this place in a musical way, the group was founded by some friends in 2003. most of the members had shared a musical past already, gaining experience in other reggaebands. Bantaba seeks the unity of mankind through the magnificent ways of creation. Music as art and expression can move people - physically, emotionally, mentally, … In a society, where art is threatened to be bereft of its infinity by media-industries and music gets lost as an one-way-product in the jungle of global over-production, the band wants to keep the originality of their songs by setting individual expression and musical existance in a bigger context. The band’s version of Roots Music is neither lack of authenticy and depth, nor joy and innovation. Despite touchin’ other musical genres, the group always keeps the connection to their musical foundation BANTABAmusic is built of heavy basslines alongside tight drumgrooves, mighty organ sounds, nyahbinghi-rhythyms, tickling guitarlicks and significant horns-arrangements. the music is ment to be a fertile ground for uplifting lyrics and melodious vocal harmonies. The band convinced their audiences with energetic live-performances in well-known clubs and festivals all over germany, netherlands and austria. so they were pleased to open shows for artists like eek-a-mouse, slum village, yellowman, sebastian sturm, nosliw, uwe banton, leo’s den, zoe, house of riddim, and many more. after some demo-recordings in 2003 and some unplugged-material, which was taped on a radio show, BANTABA is currently finishing the recordings for their album, which is going to be released in 2007. |
