This beautiful half Russian, half Ethiopian singer who was born in the Ukraine came to the US with her mother at the age of 10. As an immigrant who spoke no English and forced to live in a homeless shelter her only escape was a CD player and The Preacher’s Wife Soundtrack. Soon enough, however, her mother managed to get on her feet and they moved to a suburban neighborhood in Maryland. During her middle and high school years she participated in chorus and various school plays and it was at this time that people began to notice her talent. In her senior year Bekele took the money she saved from her summer job and recorded her first demo. The song became locally popular but Bekele had even bigger aspirations. She knew that in order to further her career she would have to move to New York City, so she decided to apply to Columbia University and was miraculously accepted. After initially getting over the culture shock of the big city she quickly learned how to establish rapport and network while interning at Epic Records. Soon enough, through a mutual friend, Bekele met a Multi Platinum Grammy Award Winning Producer, Andreao “Fanatic” Heard, who immediately recognized her superstar qualities. He began to develop her singing and songwriting talents and eventually produced her first single “Good 4 One Thing”. They are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on her album, which Bekele describes as “a continuous party with direct and in your face lyrics.” With her marketable looks, great voice and stage presence she is poised to take the industry head on and show the world that anything is possible, regardless of the obstacles that one may fac |
