Birmingham J is an American rapper from Birmingham, Alabama, United States. His spoken aim is to put his city on the map as OutKast did for Atlanta.
Although some have compared him to Ludacris, his style and attitude is unique. While many rappers brag about their years in the drug game, Birmingham is proud of his day job, but doesn’t allow it to interfere with his true love. Since around 2000, he has been writing a lot of lyrics at work and matching them to the beat when he gets home.
At one point in his career, he had a conversation with an A&R from Columbia Records who changed his outlook on the game. Told that he wouldn’t end up with much despite initially huge signing advances, Birmingham has decided to keep his day job and maintain music as his hobby.
The label exec advised him to build up his spins and sales locally to make the labels come to him. With that in mind, he teamed up with Kottage Boy Entertainment, which also owns a chain of music stores throughout Alabama. |
