Brenda Edwards is an english singer who rose to fame on British hit TV show, The X-Factor, after having come fourth place (the final woman) in its second season. Her journey on the show was unlike any other. She wowed the judges, crowd and audience at home week after week with her big voice. The ultimate acceptance by the public came when Brenda was presented with the Screen Nation award in 2007 for “Favourite Reality TV Star” which was a people’s choice award.
Edwards was snapped up to play the role of Mama Morton in Chicago The Musical with the prestigious position of closing the show at the Adelphi Theatre and reopening it at the Cambridge Theatre. She received great acclaim for her portrayal of the prison warden and played the role for a year. She has returned to play the role since and was invited to be part of the 10th Anniversary Gala.
In 2007, Brenda created the role of Pearl Pastor in Carmen Jones at the newly renovated Royal Festival Hall playing with both The London and Royal Philharmonic orchestras for which she received amazing reviews. Following this season Brenda was asked to headline a season of intimate concerts in the Festival Hall’s Clore Ballroom.
Brenda appeared as part of In Celebration Of My Sisters at the Brixton Academy and as a special guest at the Cardiff Millennium Stadium in front of 40,000 people. She performed a sold out concert Brenda Edwards One Night Only at the world famous Ronnie Scott’s and 3 shows at London’s Pigalle Club. She supported Smokey Robinson in concert and performed as guest vocalist with The Motown Show which toured throughout the UK. Brenda also made numerous performances in New York and on one occasion with the soul legends Ashford & Simpson.
Other highlights include recording a concert as special guest vocalist for BBC Radio 2 with the BBC Concert Orchestra. She has performed for three consecutive years at Rochester Castle and also for the past three years at the Barbican with Brenda’s Gospel Christmas for Raymond Gubbay.
Edwardshas appeared on several television shows including Loose Women, The Weakest Link, The Wright Stuff and on GMTV as a regular correspondent.
In 2010, Brenda received great critical praise for her performance as Killer Queen in the first UK tour of We Will Rock You which finished in Dublin in February of this year. She is delighted to have been given the chance to reprise the role in the West End this summer.
This year saw Brenda take a leading role in Galt MacDermot’s Human Comedy for the Young Vic and the release of Brenda’s long awaited debut single “You Know How To Love Me” .
