McFadden left Westlife in March 2004 to spend more time with his family - he was married with two children to ex Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona - and to work on solo projects. The following October McFadden released his debut solo set Irish Son, which produced the UK and Irish number one single Real to Me and the top five singles, Irish Son and Almost Here. The latter, a duet with Australian singer Delta Goodrem, also topped the charts in their respective home countries. In between albums, McFadden recorded the duet Everybody’s Someone with LeAnn Rimes, which achieved Top 40 chart positions in the UK and Ireland. His next single Like Only A Woman Can was released in Ireland only on 20th April 2007, and reached number 1. Following the end of his marriage to Katona and fierce press and media attention, McFadden relocated to Australia with his now partner Goodrem. With a change of record label, his sophomore album Set In Stone was released in that territory only in 2008, reaching number 5, with a revamped Like Only A Woman Can reaching the Top 20 in the Australian singles chart. This was followed by two further less successful singles from the album, Twisted and Everything But You. |
