He is of Irish descent. In July of 2008 he released a solo album called Something for All of Us…, the second release in the “Broken Social Scene Presents” series. The first single from the album is titled “Hit the Wall” and was released on May 5, 2008. It is available for download on the Arts & Crafts website. The album was released to retail on July 22, 2008. Due to the leak of an unmastered version in mid-June, Canning has released the album as a digital download.
