Rie Tanaka (田中理恵, born January 3, 1979), is a Japanese voice actress and occasional singer. She was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. Her debut as a singer came in 1998, when she won the grand prix in the Vocalist audition held by Media Works and Scitronsang, and got the chance to perfor the song “永遠の親友” featured in the Playstation game Yukyu Gensokyoku. A year later she released two drama CDs, which included some songs and demos. Her first full-lenght album entitled Garnet was released in 2001, and included several anime insert songs that she had performed at that time. Her breakthrough as a singer came in 2002, when starred the lead role of Chii in the TV anime series Chobis, and got the chance to sang both ending themes for the series. Both songs, “Raison d’être” and “ニンギョヒメ” were released as singles under the Victor Entertainment label and became huge hits among anime fans. Her second album 24 Wishes, that featured most of the songs Rie performed as Chii, was released in 2003. Subsequently, for her roles as Lacus Clyne and Meer Campbell in the popular hits Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED DESTINY, she also sang several of its insert songs. Those songs were released in soundtracks of the anime, and later were also included in Rie’s mini album Chara de Rie, which also contained songs that were previously released only in OSTs of Chobits. Since the release of her mini album Rie hasn’t released any new musical material on her own, though she is still singing insert songs for the anime series she’s participing in that are occasionally included in drama CDs and soundtracks. |
