The band formed over a mutual love of danceable but dirty guitar sounds and their new single “Take It Out” exercises just that with airplay from John Kennedy at XFM. The band of troublemakers are state of “emergency doctor” lead vocalist Patti Aberhart, British bred “animal doctor” Robert Hallworth on riffs, hairy “witchdoctor” Chris Davis on basslines and the handsome next “Doctor Who” John Raftery on beat duties. Despite having a real animal doctor in the band, the group are named after Riot Grrrl scene band: Sleater-Kinney and their seminal “Call the Doctor” album. Their captivating 23 year old kiwi front woman; Patti Aberhart, moved from New Zealand in 2009 and a year later they released their debut mini-album ‘CTD’, produced by Paul Tipler (Idlewild/Elastica/Forward Russia) to widespread acclaim. The success of this debut led to an interview and airplay on 6 music’s Steve Lamacq’s “unsigned band of the week”, BBC Bristols Introducing “Record Of The Week” and daytime playlisting, as well as a coveted slot on Gill Mill’s ‘Best of Myspace’ podcast. Press support: NME,The Girls Are, Artrocker, 247 and Venue magazine. Fed up of seeing kids choosing pop and indie discos over live music, Call The Doctors raucous live shows are making gigs fun again. Comparisons with YYYs, The Pixies, The Kills, Neil Young and PJ Harvey are flattering but it is Call The Doctor who are hoping to be the inspiration for the next generation of music makers. As Bristol’s legendary ‘Venue’ magazine said: “…all the elements are in place for this Bristol foursome to make waves”… More likely a tsunami… ‘…like The Kills playing a Blondie cover to pay their respects to the passing of cbgb’s’- Fierce Panda Records ‘fronted by a crazy-hot kiwi whelp…sounding somewhere between the breeders and the yeah yeah yeahs’- Venue Magazine ‘melt down PJ Harvey and Elastica records into one gooey whole’ - 247 Magazine ‘her voice is very cool, a gin sling’ – Bugbear Promotions … keep updated at : www.myspace.com/ctdoctor |
