She grew up in a forest in the Danish countryside, where she would always find herself secretly drawn towards an old beat up piano. Now later in life her ongoing love for vintage and analog keyboards shines through in her music, infused with an earthy feel and a rare talent for symbiotic relationship between electric and organic elements. CALLmeKAT’s sonic aesthetic simultaneously intimate, burning and distinctively her own, emerges from a melting pot of sparky fantasy - highlighted by a voice that sets her apart from the masses. Even before an official int’l release she has played solo shows all over the world, performing in numerous headlining shows in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, America, France and many other places. She has also played support for artists such as: Au Revoir Simone, The Dø, Okkervil River, Sebastien Tellier as well as festival showcases at SXSW, Popkomm, Eurosonic, NXNE, CMJ, MaMA, SPOT and Nordklang just to mention a few. Back in 2008 CALLmeKAT released both the critically acclaimed ‘I’m In A Polaroid Where Are You?’ (EP) and ‘Fall Down’, through her own Pixiebooth label. Her solo debut, mixed by Valgeir Sigurðsson, was released in June 2008. Later in the fall of 2008 her Scandinavian debut ‘Fall Down’ was released. | |Now CALLmeKAT is embarking on a new chapter for her music: These days she is finalizing the anticipated sophomore album, collaborating with drummer and producer Joe Magistro (Prophet Omega) and notable bass player Sara Lee (Gang Of Four, B 52’s), with guest appearances by pals from the road; Erika Spring (Au Revoir Simone) and Helgi Jonsson (Sigur Ros). The album is being recorded in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, in the state of New York and is scheduled for release in most of Europe the early spring of 2012. Katrine Ottosen has also contributed a cover of ‘Love Cats’ featured on the Cure tribute album ‘Perfect As Cats’, due out Fall 2008 in the States on Manimal Records. |
