Christoph Drexler and Lollo Pichler have invented a whole new genre, the Schispringerlieder (“ski-jumper songs”). They actually managed to release three albums with songs about (more or less) famous ski-jumpers. Their older lyrics are completely made-up stories and descriptions of the sportsmen. Their new albums “Trotzdemtrotz” (Although Despite) and “Hitler, Huhn und Hölle” (Hitler, Chicken and Hell) don’t include any ski-jumper songs, they sing about different things, some are sociocritical, some don’t make sence, but all songs include hidden humour. They are a wonderful example of the bizarre and ingenious sense of humour Austrians are known for. |
