Coph Nia is the dark ambient/martial music act from Sweden formed by Aldenon Satorial. Coph Nia’s music tends to drift between dark ambient soundscapes and ritual anthems. Many of the tracks betray Aldenon’s interest in the Western magical tradition, and the work of Aleister Crowley in particular.
Coph Nia is signed to the Swedish label Cold Meat Industry. Starting out with ritual Thelemic dark ambient on 2000’s That Which Remains, Aldenon proceeded to add more bombastic percussion on the subsequent full-length albums Shape Shifter (2003) and The Dark Illuminati - A Celestial Tragedy in Two Acts (2007). Common on Coph Nia’s albums are cover versions, for example Sympathy for the Devil.
The name “Coph Nia” derives from Chapter 3 of Aleister Crowley’s “Liber AL vel Legis” . The passage reads in full: “I am the Lord of the Double Wand of Power; the wand of the Force of Coph Nia—but my left hand is empty, for I have crushed an [sic] Universe; & nought remains.” (AL III:72).
