Obey’s previous recording venture, Platinum Groove Project captured the No.1 spot on the national dance chart in 2001 and in 2000 his remix of “Free 2000” by AK Soul featuring Joceyln Brown, also hit No.1 on the national dance charts. Craig’s productions and remixes have and continue to feature on Hed Kandi and Ministry Of Sound Australian compilations. As a producer, Craig’s first studio recordings Feel The Vibe and Can’t Escape The Funk came out under the Craig Obey vs Mark Munro moniker through Sony Dancepool and Fat Albert Records. Since then his production skills have lead him to collaborate on tracks with renowned artists/DJs Steve Silk Hurley, E-Smoove, Chance, Rob Tissera, Joe T. Vannelli, Disco Montego and Iva Davies (Icehouse). In 2000, Craig built the Grooveyard recording studio in Sydney and put his training as an audio engineer to serious use. Three years later and the Elektrik Force Album project began. The first releases for Craig Obey from The Elektrik Force his debut album, are singles, ‘coolin @ the.bar’ and ‘Hip-Ma-Tize-Me’. The first track’coolin @ the.bar’ has already been a hit in clubland with 7 weeks in the Top10 of the ARIA national club chart and front of the box reports for many a UK DJ. Triple J in Australia added this track to its rotation as well as many regional radio stations. The second ‘Hip-Ma-Tize-Me’ features the vocals of Chance, the renowned house singer more recently appearing on Princes new album Musicology. ‘Hip-Ma-Tize-Me’ sold out of its first run of vinyl in the UK in only 1 week and with ‘coolin @ the.bar’ in its second repress it was time for the third release. |
