D-Black always found himself being “the new kid” either in school or in the neighborhood. He was born in the Polo Ground Houses in Harlem, NY during the mid 80’s. It was a time where violence, drug abuse & poverty were at its highest. By age 6, he had already witnessed two murders up close. To find solace for his family, his father would move them around four times throughout the greater Harlem region before being evicted. This would cause the family to be forced into the Family Homeless Shelter System. While in the system, they would be moved around an additional three times throughout the Bronx. He would engage in foul play and wrong doings not for fun but because of necessity to provide for himself when in a bad situation. After word got to his father that his son was involved in criminal activity, he would teach Black to write down his frustrations and other feelings he had bottled up. One day Black heard his older cousin D-Dave spit and he decided to follow suit. In high school, he was often found in ciphers making the crowd go crazy with his punch lines and lyrical versatility. Getting tired of looking for good beats to rap on, he decided to start producing beats himself. With his introductory single “Funky Fresh” picking up buzz and his mixtape tentatively titled “New Black City” in the works, summer 2008 looks like history in the making for D-Black. He is currently working with the likes of Illmind (Money Management/ G Unit), Rapper Pooh (Little Brother/ Justus League), Khrysis (Away Team/ Justus League), Chaundon (Justus League) and Skyzoo. |
