After running Essay Recordings from 1997 to 2004 he started his own imprint Man Recordings in 2005. On Man, Daniel released the compilation “Nao Wave - Brazilian Post Punk 1983-1988”, helped the international career launch of Brazilian MC Edu K and Rio based MC Gringo, started two vinyl series (“Funk Mundial” and “Baile Funk Masters”) and released other unclassifiable rhythm experiments related to baile funk. On Man Rec, Daniel comissioned various tracks and remixes by artists such as Crookers, Diplo, Count+Sinden, Bonde Do Role, Scottie B and many others. In April 2008, Daniel released the “Rio Baile Funk Breaks” album, the world´s first ever turntablist album dedicated to baile funk, together with DJ Sandrinho and DJ Beware. In 2008 Daniel officially remixed Waldemar Bastos and Madera Limpia as a solo remixer. In August 2008 Daniel released his debut EP “Whos Afraid Of Rio?”. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Bossa Nova in 2008, he is currently working on “Bossa Do Morro”, a remix compilation in which baile funk DJs and producers from Rio rework classic Bossa Nova songs. The release on Universal Jazz Germany is scheduled for an October 2008 release. Besides partyrocking, labelrunning and remixing, Daniel has worked as journalistic contributor for various German magazines and newspapers such as “Tagesspiegel” and “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” amongst others. |
