In 2007, the two friends decided to create something new—a dance-ey new live act with original beats. They called it “Database” and debuted at the Caravana da Coragem. The two quickly befriended São Paulo’s Paulistano Crew and grew with them artistically and sylistically. This is a group known for its praise of French house, worshiping artists like Daft Punk, Cassius and Les Rhythmes Digitales. As Database, the two released their first compilation, “Uglyedits Vol.1” in early 2008. Around this time, they were invited to remix Fatboy Slim, and got together with his label (Southern Fried Records) to release their Miami EP, collaborating with Bonde do Role. From these two releases, their notoriety grew rapidly in Brazil, playing in some of the country’s biggest festivals, including TIM/2008 (with the Klaxons, Kanye West, MGMT, Junior Boys, etc) Haagen Dazs Mix Music Festival/2008 (Uffie, Feadz, Yuksek, The Glimmers and VHS or Beta) Fashion Week/2008 SP/RJ, Eletrônica Festival BH/2008 and Bye Bye Brasil Eletrorock Festival/2008. In 2009 they released their second compilation, “Uglyedits Vol.2” After this release, even more festivals came knocking to book Database, including the Festival de Teatro de Curitiba 2009, Chemical Music Festival 2009 (Rio de Janeiro), 9 Festival Cultural LGBT, and Vice Magazine Party (2009). The duo also has impressive press credentials. Folha de São Paulo (the largest newspaper in São Paolo) and DJ Mag named them “Best New Producers” of 2009. Rraurl, one of the biggest electronic music websites in the world, named “Uglyedits Vol. 1” the “Best Compilation” of 2008. Today Database is one of the biggest electronic names in Brazil, and is releasing a co-written single with French Horn Rebellion this summer. The record label, VCR is excited for this to be their 2nd release, riding the heels of a very successful debut with VEGA’s single “No Reasons.” |
