I have said to myself and David that I, as a label will never interfere or have opinions about what he does as a solo artist. That is one of the main criteria for the solo project. David does what the hell he wants. And therefore it becomes extraordinary, unique and a new music genre is born every time. His first solo album was called “Amaterasu” and was released in December 2004. Much engaged in the album was his girlfriend Sara Culler, she herself known for her song writing, as a duet partner and background singer. The album title is also taken from her middle name. From the album we picked two singles, “April & May” and “White Van” both on high rotation on radio stations all over the world. “Amaterasu” was partly recorded at an ex-slaughter house, backed by a few musicians, and produced, recorded and performed by David with help from his brother Joel. Finalized at Señorita Studios, Hässleholm, where Johan T Karlsson tweaks knobs and took the reigns for the final mix. If there is a place where something is minimal and experimental - it’s where “Amaterasu” docks. “Amaterasu” is also released in USA on Hidden Agenda/Parasol, Japan on Egging/1977 Recordings and in Europe through BB*Island. The album got it shares of road travel, mostly in Europe where David did two memorable tours with his band. David is currently working on new material and a new album. From what we have heard, we have never heard anything like this. Try to imagine Postal Service, without any knowledge on electronics paired with Queen doing a cabaret in an emotional hurricane. |
